Trump Calls Off Iran Strikes

US President Donald Trump said he had called off new strikes on Iran and claimed a peace deal could be signed this weekend. A tense calm prevails in the Persian Gulf, while Iran has not publicly confirmed progress.

A spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry stated that 'nothing has been finalized'. The deal would include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran has nearly closed in retaliation for the joint US-Israeli attacks that started the war on February 28.

Israel is not directly involved in the negotiations, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said he expressed appreciation for restrictions on Iran's nuclear program. Hours earlier, Trump had threatened to take control of Iran's oil industry.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said a final agreed text of a peace deal between the US and Iran has been reached.
