Trump Announces Iran Peace Deal

U. S. President Donald Trump announced Saturday that a peace deal with Iran is scheduled to be signed Sunday, potentially ending over 100 days of hostilities. Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil shipping route, will reopen immediately after the signing.

The deal, described by Trump as a wall against nuclear weapons, includes the U. S. collecting and destroying Iran's enriched uranium. However, an Iranian foreign ministry official said there are no plans for a Sunday signing, suggesting it could occur in the coming days.

Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar are set to join U. S. and Iranian officials in a virtual meeting to sign a memorandum of understanding that would extend the ceasefire by 60 days, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and trigger negotiations over Iran's nuclear program. Israeli officials warned that the terms could endanger their country's security.
