U.S. Authorizes Iranian Oil Imports

The U.S. Treasury Department issued a 60-day general license on Monday authorizing the production, delivery, and sale of Iranian oil, including its importation into the United States. The measure, effective until August 21, is part of the framework agreed between Washington and Tehran last week.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Iran has committed to ensuring free transit through the Strait of Hormuz and to allowing inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Talks continue in Switzerland aimed at reaching a final peace deal.

Vice President JD Vance asserted that Iran agreed to resume U.N. nuclear inspections, though Tehran did not confirm new commitments. Tanker tracking data indicates a significant increase in Iranian crude exports following the partial lifting of restrictions.

According to TankerTrackers.com, Iran exported nearly 18 million barrels in the first five days, a figure that later rose to 36 million barrels of crude oil.
