Ukrainian Charged Over Nord Stream

German prosecutors have formally charged a Ukrainian national over the explosions that damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea in September 2022. The suspect, identified as Serhii K under German privacy laws, was arrested in Italy in August 2025 and extradited to Germany.

He has been in pre-trial detention in Hamburg since November 28, 2025. He is accused of leading a team of seven accomplices who used the sailing yacht Andromeda to place explosive devices on three of the four pipelines near Denmark's Bornholm island.

The pipelines, which transported Russian gas to Europe, were not in operation at the time.
