Russia Strikes Kyiv, 27 Killed

At least 27 people were killed and more than 90 injured in a massive Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv, according to local authorities. Mayor Vitali Klitschko described it as the largest assault on the city since the war began.

The strikes hit residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited a partially destroyed apartment building and vowed retaliation.

Moscow said the bombardment was retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities, including a refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia would continue to increase pressure on the Kyiv regime to achieve its goals.

Ukraine accused Russia of targeting civilian areas and rejected any equivalence between aggressor and defender. In Kharkiv, five people were wounded, including a child, and two more in the Kyiv region, where civilian infrastructure was also targeted.

The Ukrainian drone attack on a refinery in the Moscow region came less than two weeks earlier, in the largest such attack since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
