Death Toll Rises to 2,595

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, raised the death toll from the June 24 earthquakes to 2,595, an increase of 300 from the previous day. Over 11,000 people were injured. The United States deployed more than 900 personnel in the country, one of its largest disaster responses in years.

In Catia La Mar, rescuers pulled security guard Hernán Gil alive from the rubble after eight days. Four police officers were arrested for allegedly looting valuables from the ruins.

Hospitals in northern Venezuela are operating at 900% capacity. Body identification is critical: morgues process about 400 corpses daily. A forensic pathologist, speaking anonymously, said the official count could be less than a third of the actual number.
