Russian Strike Kills 22 in Ukraine

Russia launched a massive wave of missiles and drones at Ukraine on Monday, killing at least 22 people and exposing critical gaps in the country's air defenses. All Russian ballistic missiles hit their targets, underscoring a severe shortage of U.S.-made Patriot interceptors.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will press this issue at the NATO summit starting Tuesday in Ankara, Turkey, which U.S. President Donald Trump will attend. Fourteen people were killed in Kyiv and six others in the surrounding region, according to local authorities.

Ukrainian forces intercepted 37 missiles and over 90% of the 351 drones, but failed to down any of the 23 ballistic missiles. Russia's Defense Ministry said the massive strike with precision weapons and drones was retaliation for recent Ukrainian long-range attacks.

The attack comes on the eve of the NATO summit, where Trump and Zelenskyy are set to hold talks to push for peace.
