Iran Strikes US Bases

Iran launched missiles and drones at US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan on Thursday, in retaliation for a new wave of US airstrikes. The US bombings hit about 90 Iranian military targets, according to Washington, which justified them as retribution for Iran's attack on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

About 20% of the world's oil passes through that waterway. Tehran claimed to have struck Patriot interceptors in Kuwait, early warning systems in Qatar, and fuel depots in Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters.

Kuwait's military confirmed intercepting one cruise missile, three ballistic missiles, and ten drones. Additionally, Iran fired ten ballistic missiles at Jordan's Azraq military base.

Eight were intercepted, according to Jordan, with no casualties or damage reported. The tit-for-tat attacks threaten the fragile ceasefire in place since April, which has been eroding in recent days.

Iran also reported that US strikes hit near the Bushehr nuclear plant perimeter and a section of the railway line between Tehran and Mashhad. President Trump said the strikes aim to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, following Iran's attack on commercial ships on Tuesday.
