Trump: Ceasefire With Iran Over

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that Iran requested to continue talks and Washington agreed, but declared the bilateral ceasefire over. The statement follows a week of exchanges of attacks between the two countries, including incidents in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Qatari mediators met with Iranian officials on Friday to seek de-escalation and discuss navigation in that key waterway. Daily tanker traffic through the strait appeared to slow on Friday amid concerns about the recovery of global oil supplies and shipping.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that Iran asked to continue talks and the U.S. agreed, but the ceasefire is over. The White House had indicated Thursday night that it was prepared to adhere to the terms of the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran last month if Tehran did the same.
